Scheldeoord and surroundings

Scheldeoord is quietly located, right on the seawall of the Westerschelde and the Scheldestrandje, in a green and quiet part of Zeeland.
At this beautiful location on the dike you are surrounded by polders, enjoy beautiful views and have space around you!

The location may be quiet, the immediate surroundings of Scheldeoord have a lot to offer!
You can enjoy walking and cycling, have fun and find beautiful places that are well worth a visit!

Baarland

Baarland is the nearest town is just under 2 km from the campsite.

Do not expect a large village here with several stores, restaurants and cafes. In fact, it is a small and quiet village with about 600 inhabitants, beautiful old houses and farms as well as the foundations of the former medieval castle Hellenburg. The castle itself was unfortunately destroyed in a storm flood in the 15th century.

The other villages in the area are also small and friendly and nice to visit during a bike ride or hike.

Goes is the nearest city at about 15 km, but also, for example, Middelburg, Zierikzee and the Belgian cities of Antwerp and Bruges are easily accessible and worth a visit!

National Landscape

At Scheldeoord, you will stay in a beautiful and peaceful part of Zeeland!
You will be in the area known as 'the Bag of Zuid-Beveland'.

It is a unique polder landscape, one of the oldest in the Netherlands, full of countless winding dykes, dozens of orchards full of blossoms or fruit, beautiful nature, old farms and small, friendly villages.

This beautiful and varied landscape has rightly been designated a National Landscape! The many dykes, both paved
and unpaved, are particularly characteristic of this region. Nowhere else will you find so many dykes, which are a remnant of the many floods and subsequent land reclamations in earlier times.

But there is more! In addition to nature, charming villages and polders, here in 'de Zak' or 'Landschapspark Borsele' you will also find modern industry
, various sporting, musical and cultural events and plenty of choice for a day out!

Go out and discover it for yourself!

Walking and cycling

Walking and cycling will take you to the most beautiful spots in this varied landscape!
So hop on your bike or put on your walking boots and head out!

For example, cycle through the beautiful green hedge landscape around Nisse in the heart of 'de Zak' or visit 'de Zwaakse Weel'. This was once a busy tidal creek, but is now the largest nature reserve in Zuid-Beveland, where you can enjoy beautiful walks through meadows and over unpaved dykes!

Outside the dykes
Did you know that you can also enjoy wonderful walks and bike rides outside the dykes?
You walk or cycle 'on the other side' of the sea dyke, right next to the water, where you have a beautiful view of the Westerschelde and the large sea-going vessels passing by!
